Are cells from all sections/regions
of the brain able to be harvested, cultured and utilized in
intracerebral implantation?
Data suggest that neural precursors may be present in many
brain areas in addition to the two mostly widely known areas
- the hippocampus and the subventricular zone.
However, controversy exists regarding the essential nature
of the cells harvested from these different areas and whether
they are or are not identical cell populations. Thus, it is
premature to conclude that a population from one site may
be equivalent to or superior to those from another site for
the purposes of intracerebral implantation.
